Meditation Training

Learn to develop your own daily meditation practice. Some of the greatest benefits of meditation include: quieting the mind, getting to know yourself better, and calming the body. Classes include Vipassana, Buddhist, Kundalini, and other styles of meditation.

Some things to consider about meditation and the mind:

  1. “The mind is a terrible master but an excellent servant.” The mind is constantly going. That is its job. You are not going to stop it. Your job is to train it. To be present to catch it every time it gets off track.
  2. Meditation uses a point of focus – – the breath, and mantra, watching, etc. Each time the mind wanders, the goal is to bring it back to the point of focus— and therefore, the present moment.
  3. No one is good at meditation for many years. The goal is not to be good. The goal is not to be completely focused but to catch the mind when it wanders. I have had the opportunity to participate in many 7-21 day silent meditation retreats with some incredible teachers. I also take myself for 3-5 day solo retreats. Meditating 12-14 hours/day.

WHY MEDITATE?

Why do I do it? It sounds pretty brutal. Why take the time? Because by shining a light on the darkness, by shining a light into the tunnel of my mind some thing is freed. Released. And in that there is a great freedom. Lightness. Joy. A fresh perspective. First start. Compassion for the unworthiness, doubt, shame that are all part of the human experience.
